AS is run by Astral7002. It was created on August 17th, 2025. Videos on AstralSite are hosted thanks to DailyMotion's servers.
AstralSite does something differently than other video sharing platforms -- there's no likes, no views, no comments, just stories for you to enjoy.
The main purpose of AstralSite is to provide a space for me to share my own videos with the web, without the use of YouTube and their deceptive, right-wing practices.
I use DailyMotion and Neocities to help me accomplish this. My website is hosted thanks to Neocities, I use their web editor to make updates and their servers to post files (such as images) that allow AS to work properly. I do not host videos through Neocities as that costs money, there isn't a lot of storage available and it's not optimized. Plus, despite allowing video hosting, Neocities suggests you host elsewhere and simply embed on your site. Unfortunately, when it comes to being anti-YouTube, there aren't a lot of YT alternatives available to host your videos. That's where DailyMotion comes in. I upload my videos to DailyMotion (a French YouTube alternative that enforces minimal compression) and embed the link to their servers on AstralSite. This way, I can host my videos in HD, have them all in one place on one website, and all of this at zero cost to me. DailyMotion also gets engagement from my site embeds, so it generally all works out. The biggest downside is that I can't control the video player, leading to the bugs listed below. However, it's a small price to pay for a personal space for my own videos, separate from the video-goliath that is YouTube. Posting my videos to DailyMotion also ensures that my viewers will always have a direct, easy-to-access and compatible place to watch my videos without YouTube. Now, would I host my own videos if I had the tools to do so? Of course, however video hosting is expensive and pretty risky, especially considering my small audience. My setup on AstralSite works, and I'm going to stick with it unless something else happens.
1. Once a video ends, a random video not intended to be hosted on AstralSite will begin autoplaying. This is due to DailyMotion's website code. There isn't really anything I can do to stop this, so just be aware of it when watching and know that autoplayed videos are not monitored or endorsed by AstralSite. When an autoplayed video appears, simply refresh the page or click off.
2. The DailyMotion video player does not work on older browsers, such as MyPal. This becomes a problem when watching AstralSite on older hardware (an issue with YouTube that AS set out to solve.) As with the last bug, AstralSite does not have control over what browsers are allowed to access DailyMotion's servers, meaning that there's nothing I can currently do about this bug. If you're looking to watch AstralSite on older hardware (e.g Windows Vista or XP) I highly recommend using Supermium, a Chromium fork that supports OSes as old as Windows XP and allows you to bypass "unsupported browser" prompts (so you can watch AstralSite on old hardware.) This method was tested and approved for watching AS on my 2008 Toshiba Satellite Pro L350 running Windows Vista.
3. On mobile devices, many fonts on AstralSite do not load properly and just display as Times New Roman. ASMobile is working to fix this (use the mobile app, although not all fonts are fixed), however as of now fonts are still broken beyond the homepage on the mobile app.
